An Overview of Sunday Programs for Youth
At Unity on the River we affirm the spiritual unfoldment of our youth
as a celebration of God¹s good expressing.
Each Sunday the youngest members of our church join together in worship, blending as unique parts of One mind and One heart to create a sacred space.
This is a nurturing, safe space in which to learn, share, grow and celebrate our indwelling Christ. Our classes are based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Bible and understood from a metaphysical perspective through prayer and meditation. We honor all faith traditions and seek to discover the perennial wisdom that unites us all.
Each youth education class begins with a worship circle of prayer, song, affirmation, personal sharing and meditation. Through the exploration of Unity¹s Living Curriculum, age appropriate lessons are presented using a variety of resources: the Bible, sacred texts, inspirational books, meaningful stories, experiential exercises, yoga, art projects, music, group meditation and prayer.
Volunteer teachers serve as loving facilitators of the lessons. Teachers are encouraged to frequently ask questions, gently guiding students as they learn to express their own truth.
Youth of Unity (Y.O.U.), our high school students, gather at the 11 a.m. service. These older students assume increasing responsibility for the lessons and activities of their group. Accompanied by adult sponsors, they are involved in various service projects in the community and they are invited travel to other Unity churches for concerts, retreats, and conferences.
Each Sunday service concludes with students joining the adult congregation in the sanctuary to sing "The Peace Song" and to say "The Prayer of Protection."
