Announcing a new initiative in Education at Unity!

WHAT’S THE NEW VIEW OF OUR ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM?

We will encourage congregants to take a long-term view of their spiritual development. For those who wish to engage in sustained spiritual education within our community, they will be invited to enroll in our Disciple Program. Participants in our Disciple Program will be able to acquire recognition of their efforts through a new tracking system of their class participation.

Participants will be encouraged to commit to at least one area of concentrated study. Completion of the recommended classes for each area may lead to increased leadership opportunities within the Unity movement and our especially our own church.

HOW WILL THE DEVELOPMENTAL TRACKS WORK?

Classes, workshops, and small study groups will be offered to support the student’s journey along one or all four of these new developmental tracks. Students may engage in a transformative, self-paced journey from Novice to Master levels within each of four developmental tracks.

Participation within adult education programs will be tracked and credits accorded. As a student demonstrates competency at each level of mastery within a developmental track, UOTR will issue a certificate to officially recognize this accomplishment.

UOTR programs are open to the whole community, regardless of formal enrollment or commitment to a developmental track.

WHAT ARE THE DEVELOPMENTAL TRACKS?

The creation of developmental tracks allows for better organization of the many spiritual education opportunities offered at UOTR.

All adult programs will be presented according to which track they best serve. Identifying a class with a track offers some clarity as to its primary focus and relationship to other classes.  Students may select an area for concentrated study. Classes within a particular track or area of study will be clearly presented and suggestions will be made as to the order in which they might be taken (e.g. Four T’s should precede Keys to the Kingdom).

The four new developmental tracks at UOTR  are inspired by the work of Angeles Arrien, a cultural anthropologist and author of The Four-fold Way.

WHAT IS THE FOUR-FOLD WAY?

The Four-fold Way is a method of identifying important leadership roles within a community. Based on studies of indigenous people, Arrien found that four key roles emerged within many diverse types of communities: the Teacher; the Healer; the Visionary, and the Leader or Warrior.

A review of the offerings within our adult education program revealed that our classes and programs tend to support one or more of these roles, just as our participants tend to focus on one or more of these areas of leadership.
