Artist in Residence: Paula Estey
Our community holds the belief that art and art expression is an integral part of a spiritual practice and, like music, is another form of worship. Paula Estey, a life-long artist and spiritual seeker, feels honored to have both created and inaugurated the position called Artist in Residence, which deeply reflects Unity on the River's belief in the integrated connection between art and spirituality.
Several years ago Estey created interpretive paintings of Unity's Twelve Spiritual Powers, which can be found in our beloved Sanctuary, and additional work is displayed throughout our center. We currently have plans underway for an art team at Unity which will create community liturgical art. Students of our Artist in Residence have already received high praise for the powerful art shows they have offered in the UOTR Gallery.
We have many ongoing classes which reflect creative expressions of spiritual journeys, including a year-long curriculum, designed by Estey, called The Creative Heart. Recent areas of focus in this amazing class series includes: The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz; Soul Mission/Life Vision by Alan Seale; Teachings on Love by Thich Nhat Hahn; and The Secret. Coming up is Painting as a Spiritual Practice, an original Estey class and The Artists Way based on Julia Cameron’s book. These classes offer meditation, spiritual teachings and discussion, painting and creative expression, deep fellowship and personal, creative growth- and are an exclusive development at Unity on the River.
