WHAT IS ADVENTURES IN FAITH?

An annual fall program held at Unity on the River (and hundreds of other Unity churches world-wide) in which the whole congregation is invited to explore the same inspirational book. The book’s spiritual teachings become the focus of church services and are also the focus of numerous small study groups. Each Unity church selects a different book every year.

WHO PARTICIPATES?

Everyone who attends Unity on the River is encouraged to participate in Adventures in Faith.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Rev. Shipley will explore one chapter from the selected study book at services each week. Small study groups are held in congregants’ homes to more fully explore the weekly themes.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SMALL STUDY GROUPS?
Lay facilitators help guide the small study groups. Each group develops its own character and patterns. Most groups devote time to prayer and meditation, discussion of key points presented in book, experiential exercises, and personal sharing.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A STUDY GROUP?
Sign-up sheets are available in the Fellowship area for three weeks prior to the beginning of the AIF program. Congregants who are willing to open their homes and hearts to host a group are listed, as well as the day, time, and location of their group.  Some hosts provide intentions or special notes about their group. Simply sign your name under the description of the group that is the best fit for you—and then just show up!

ARE THERE OTHER ACTIVITIES BESIDES SMALL STUDY GROUPS?

Yes!  During our Adventures in Faith program, we often hold special events. Concerts, coffeehouses, prayer vigils, and group outings are typically scheduled. Watch the announcements and special events bulletin board for the latest developments! At the end of Adventures in Faith, UOTR traditionally holds a dinner dance to celebrate!  Watch for ticket sales in the Fellowship area.

WHY IS THE ADVENTURES IN FAITH PROGRAM IMPORTANT?

There is a miraculous vibrational resonance created when an entire community chooses to focus energy on a common subject. We serve as both teachers and students, providing support and inspiration as we embark on similar spiritual journeys. Participation in a small study group is a very powerful, enriching experience. Deep connections  develop that are personally meaningful and serve to strengthen the church as a whole. One of the most common remarks shared about participation in a small study group is: “It’s fun!”  At Unity on the River, we are committed to celebrating the Presence and awakening humanity to its Divinity. Adventures in Faith supports this mission.
